After crossing two ferries, being randsacked by border patrol, and sleeping off the side of a highway, Charley Trembly, Dane Faurschou, and myself arived in Tofino, BC. I must say....one of the coolest places I have ever been. Tofino, known for it's many protect coves and great surf, is located midway up Vancouver Island on the Pacific side.
We spent about five or so days up there, camping in any free place we could find. The first two nights we slept on a rocky flat lot right on the beach in Ucluelet. The place looked like to start of a project for beach front villages. The second morning a police officer showed up and casually told us to leave, so we did. The second night Charley slept in the back of his truck while Dane and myself attended a local house party. The party was filled with hippie chicks and some of the biggest, most authentic, whale harpoon'n Canadian dudes we had ever seen. Dane and myself felt like little boys sitting around a fire with dudes towering over us telling us stories of harpooning Beluga Whales in Northern Canada. We ended up bailing the party and crashing just down the street in an unfinished mansion being built. One of the best sleeps...
During the days, we looked for surf and when we couldn't find any we would hike some amazing trails, swam in lakes, and cliff jump into the purest river I’ve ever been in. We usually ended up at the Tofino Skatepark in the evenings to barbeque and skate. The night life in Tofino wasn't amazing but there were plenty of travelers and locals willing to have a bonfire or hang.
After not showering for a week, we started are on our route South. After crossing a ferry into Vancouver, BC, we proceeded across the U.S. Border and tried to make it to Charley's in Seattle, Wa. We didn't quite make it and ended up sleeping in the parking lot of some casino in Northern Washington....
